Today was all about comfort zones. We started our next bit of the Cape Camino Walk (part 3 of day 1) at Steenberg Shopping Centre by walking through Westlake Village. I did not know this existed, but as I was walking along, I realised this was where a friend of mine had been mugged the week before.

It was an interesting walk through the village, firstly because I was thinking about that mugging, and secondly because it was so completely different to my suburb. I must say that despite thinking of the recent mugging, I felt quite safe in the area. Once through the village we were in Westlake Business Park and then headed up Boyes Drive. This took F out of her comfort zone as she stared at the hill ahead.

F does not like hills! I can’t say that I do either. M just seems to carry on regardless – a true walking machine. We spoke about M-speed and F-speed on this walk, with an agreement upfront that we always walk at the speed of the slowest person.  Well, we got up the hill, and it felt good! We also got drizzled on.

Naturally we stopped for some pictures!

After walking along Boyes Drive for what seemed like forever, we saw the road down. Or rather, the steps down.

This took us into Camp Road, past the Muizenberg Hebrew Congregation, which we were not allowed to take a picture of, for some reason. It’s a beautiful building.

After crossing Main Road, we were at the beach and the end of our walk.

These walks have become learning experiences for us – we are learning what we are capable of physically, and we learn a little more about each other on each walk.
