Walkers and Runners

Back to the Cape Camino route. Today we walked from Castle Rock to just past the Cape Point entrance – about 10km.  We met some runners on the way – they were running up Red Hill and then past Cape Point and down towards Castle Rock and presumably back to Simonstown. Cheering them on helped keep us distracted from the hill we were walking up!

We have been leaving home early in the morning!

But by the time we start walking, the sun is up. We walked up this hill, cheering on the runners as they ran down.

Then it flattened out for us, on Plateau Road. We were cheering on the runners, and we got some cheers ourselves from one crowd of onlookers who realised we had walked up the hill.  F yelled to the runners “it will be downhill soon” and got the answer “that’s worse”! Oh dear. We just clapped after that!

And then the first glimpse of the ocean on the other side of Cape Point.

Still walking, with the odd runner still passing us.  This was the “are we there yet” point, but sadly, we were still about a km away from the car.

Our walk was just under 10km.

Coffee and breakfast is a huge part of our walks. We need to sit and contemplate our achievements, after all. We are constantly amazed that we struggled to complete a 5km flat parkrun a few months ago, and now we are walking 10kms (3 of them steep uphill).

When I bought the Cape Camino passport, I had no idea I would actually be taking this journey with two wonderful people who would push me past my perceived limits, and would let me push them past theirs.
