We Are Not Marshmallows

With the lack of rain in Cape Town at the moment, it seems as if the world stops when it does rain. We think to ourselves: do we really want to go out in that? Surely we would rather curl up with a book and coffee?  But no. Repeat after me: We Are Not Marshmallows. We will not melt in the rain. We will survive wet clothes.

With this in mind there was a bit of discussion about whether to go for our “sundowner” walk on Wednesday evening. It started with “I was just wondering if we will walk … its raining here” and ended very quickly with “We have walked in sleet…..”.  End of discussion. Damn, now we were all committed. But we HAVE walked in sleet – we started walking together in winter and one day in particular we turned a corner and hit a wall of sleet.

So with spare clothes in the boot of my car, and no turning back, we headed to Sea Point to “watch the sun set” behind the clouds.

We started with a quick walk around Green Point Park.

The weather doesn’t look great, does it!! But it was quite warm while we were walking.

I didn’t even know about the wheel in the park, so it was great to walk around and see everything.

Another grey view. Who walks in this? We do.

These two looked all bundled up. I was wearing a t-shirt.

More places I had not seen in the park. Certainly worth another look.

We headed back to the entrance, as they close and lock the gates at sunset.

Then we took a walk along the promenade.

No-one was around. The joys of walking in bad weather – everyone else is indoors and we have the whole place to ourselves.

A small glimpse of what could be sunset somewhere behind clouds.

The weather behaved and we didn’t get very wet at all.

After our walk we had supper, and wine, because we deserved it after proving we were not marshmallows.

Not a bad walk. Next time perhaps we will spend more time in the park, if we get there early enough.
